Ministry to Cambodia

by Regin Reyno

Klement Backpacking and Ministry plans to go to Cambodia to minister there. What will be our ministry there?

Last May, Jessielyn and I had a chance to visit an SDA church in Siem Reap, Cambodia. We were able to attend their Sabbath services. It was a heartwarming experience to know and witness that there are SDA’s in that predominantly Buddhist country. But at the same time, it’s sad to know that there are only a few of them. And their Sabbath service needs “life”. Since then, it became my burden to minister to them. To be an instrument of the Holy Spirit in strengthening the spiritual lives of the members so that their light may shine more brightly till it reaches other souls.

Winning souls in Cambodia is not an easy task because of the language barrier. Most of them cannot speak and understand English, that’s why we need the local brethren to step up and tell other Cambodians about the gospel. But how will they do that if their faith is also weakening? How can their light shine brightly?

One of the ways to strengthen their faith is to visit their church. Encourage them. Show them that there are Adventist in other parts of the world that worship the one and only true God. It is like putting some more wood in a bone fire. Their fire is slowly waning, due to many factors like they aren’t visited by the Pastor that often. Their services lack the songs and other praises that uplifts the soul.

That’s when Klement came into my mind. Klement, my batch, the batch of nursing graduates who are endowed with different spiritual gifts. While we were in Annex, we were blessed to have our own church, which served as our training ground in serving the Lord. We were also active then in ministering to nearby small churches that also needs “life”.

We can offer songs of encouragement. Show them that Sabbath services can be alive and joyful, talk to them about Jesus more, encouragement them to be faithful. As SDA’s Christians we need to encourage each other as we journey on like pilgrims. By this small task, through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, we will encourage them and renew their devotion to God. Then, because their fire is already strong they will in turn minister to the people around them, the people in darkness who doesn’t know Jesus yet.

So basically that will be our main purpose there. It’s like the church visitations that we were doing when we were still in Annex and the main campus. So we will offer songs, speak words of encouragement, teach some songs to the children, visit the homes of some members, and remind them that there’s a powerful living God that loves us so much.

This will be the greatest help that we can give to a war-torn, poor country like Cambodia. By introducing Jesus Christ and our blessed hope which is His 2nd coming.
