Preparing for a major and once-in-a-lifetime event is not easy, right? So the moment we arrived in Bangkok and had our short sleep or shall I say nap, we commenced the final preparations of the Klement Backpacking and Ministry 2012. With me is Regin of Regin's Travels and Capt. Lowyn, a BFP officer. Coordinating some of our batch mates in Bangkok is Franz of In the Land of Smiles.
To those who are wondering what is KBM, allow me to re-introduce it to you. Klement Backpacking and Ministry is an organization composed of college batch mates who share the passion for traveling and service. Klement is the name of our nursing batch in college.
This is the first KBM and we dubbed it Klement Backpacking and Ministry 2012: Thailand and Cambodia with the fitting theme, "11 Days, 2 Countries, 1 Mission".
Sensing the need to fill our empty stomach, we had our breakfast at one of the food stalls along the streets. Bangkok is so famous for these delectable street foods and I want to try it myself!
Right after breakfast, we visited the headquarters of the Seventh-day Adventist Church's Thailand Mission in Pridi Banomyong, Sukhumvit 71. We went there for a very special purpose: getting the boxes full of The Great Hope books (in Thai) that we will distribute in the streets of Bangkok during the KBM. The team is so grateful to the staff of the mission headquarters for their generous support!
This is my first day in a foreign country and we grabbed the chance to explore the city. We hopped from one mode of transportation to another, glimpsed on the mouth-watering street foods, and noticed (for men only) the beautiful women all around us.
Our next destination is Siam Paragon in Rama 1 Road. It is indeed a world-class mall full of busy shoppers and mall-goers.
Near Siam Paragon is the Central World and a marker honoring Thailand's olympic medallists.
This marker also has the countdown to the 2012 London Olympics. How many days and hours are left before the start of the games? See the photo below.
We then headed to Pratunam, a market full of people and clothes. Later I knew that Pratunam is the place where you can buy cheap clothes, fabrics, and textiles especially in the central district of Bangkok.
In Pratunam, we met some members of the team and meeting them for the first time in many years was just so mesmerizing!
Then, we're off to the Victory Monument in Ratchathewi district. And the team never had a moment to keep silent. We talked, and talked, and talked every time.
And after all those catching up, we parted ways to be ready for the morrow's event-- welcoming our other batch mates who will be arriving in Bangkok.
Before going home, Regin and I stopped by a shopping mall to purchase a much needed equipment for KBM Productions: a microphone and a camera holder.
And we went home to Regin's place late at night and dog-tired.
